MacGPS Pro Has Gone Totally Mobile

With sad hearts, we must inform you that Apple has phased out 32-bit Mac application support. 32-bit applications are no longer be supported at all by Apple's most recent Mac operating system software starting with the 2019 macOS upgrade. The map files in MacGPS Pro use the 32-bit-only PICT format and hence are longer be usable with the most recent Apple macOS system software updates. Also Garmin has reduced the compatibility of many of their newer handheld and marine GPS receivers with 3rd party software such as MacGPS Pro. The vast majority of our MacGPS Pro customers have switched to using our apps mostly on iOS devices rather than on their less-portable Mac computers. Therefore, we made the decision to stop selling new copies of our Mac products on January 31, 2018.

Please know that we are not abandoning you as our customer! Your MacGPS Pro program and all of its maps will continue to work on your current Mac as long as you either don't upgrade the operating system beyond macOS 10.14 Mojave, or you download the Parallels Desktop application and install macOS Mojave or earlier on its virtual machine. Support for the MacGPS Pro program and MacTopos maps will still be available to you via phone call or email.

This decision allows us to provide more frequent updates with exciting new features to our mobile apps for the iPhone and iPad: iHikeGPS and iSailGPS. Many of you already have made the transition from MacGPS Pro and Mac laptops to using our iHikeGPS or iSailGPS with your iPhone or iPad. This transition has convinced us that iOS apps are the way to go for navigation in the field, so we will invest our full programming force towards the future.

Again, thank you for using MacGPS Pro, and we look forward to your continued enjoyment of our iHikeGPS and iSailGPS apps. Enjoy the great outdoors!

Sincerely,

Dr. Lawrence W. James, developer
